Hi {fname},

I recently came across this quote when joining a business social network:

"It's not WHAT you know or WHO you Know it's WHO KNOWS YOU"

Now it took a few days for this to sink in ...

Then an A'HA moment occurred:

YES, that is soooo true!

As mentioned in previous emails and entries to my training site I am evolving my approach to effective use of business social networks.

At one end of the spectrum there are those who just blatantly spam comment walls without even using the person's name and without offering any useful ideas that are unrelated to their primary business. They even spam the comment walls of people already in the same business - they have not bothered to even glance at the profile.

On the other end of this spectrum are the "hello, how are you, how can I help you types" that make NO mention of where they are coming from and where you begin to see their inherent hypocrisy in that all that they are angling for is your attention so that they can then swoop and spam you with their primary business.

I like the middle ground, whereby I initially offer the option for people to visit my profile that is entirely focused on my EZ Wealth business and at the same time try to suggest or offer something useful, unrelated to my business - AND use their names, AND relate to their profile where possible.

But I am discovering a further dimension here. More and more people I approach are acknowledging me by saying something along the lines of "Hello - I have seen you around - glad we can make contact" and then they either say they will look at my profile, look at the useful information - or just respond by spamming me their own primary business (which, at that point, is OK with me ... though I do not let this sidetrack me from my business focus).

Now, why are they saying "I have seen you around"?

Well, it's because I am joining every business social network that is offered to me, I am seeking friends, connections and associates on many of these, I use a professional studio photograph for my profile, I keep my profile (with blog) focused on the one business and keep this up to date, and where I can, I use people's names. My blog entry appears in Google organic rankings for certain keywords - an added bonus.

Another example is that I recently acquired a product to increase my twitter following and in 2 days this has doubled to over 1000 and growing. (Here is the reference url: HERE) - yes, you have to pay for this - it's not free - it's worth it.

Now I am realizing that as more people see me, favorably, the greater the chance they may CHOOSE, in their own good time, to wander over to my profile and take the Tour and join the business.

This approach takes more time than the "hard sell" with all the hype that goes with it - but, in the long run, it will pay off with a solid and trusting customer base.

Then it hit me! That is how my husband and I succeeded in promoting and instructing USA training courses in a small steel and coal city in Australia - with anti USA sentiments - for 20 years. This occurred NOT because of our direct selling skills, although this had to be done right - it really occurred because we became known and trusted in the business community over time. We had to exercise enough emotional strength to demonstrate belief in our product in a very cynical environment and then deliver the results in the training room. Like EZ Wealth's, our training product was intangible - but REAL, nonetheless.

So there is nothing new here. The internet, in itself, makes no difference. People have to have trust. They have to know you and know of you. This takes time. This is the same for ANY true business, online or offline.

Bottom line: Be prepared to get yourself known - favorably - and take the time to do it.
